October – March: Peak Season (Best Time)
This is when Rajasthan is at its best. Daytime temperatures range from 15-28°C, making city sightseeing, fort visits and desert experiences comfortable. Key highlights:
- October: Diwali festivities, Pushkar Camel Fair (Nov). Post-monsoon freshness.
- November: Pushkar Fair (usually early Nov), pleasant 20-28°C. Book 6+ weeks ahead.
- December–January: Peak tourist season. Desert nights drop to 5-10°C — carry warm layers. Christmas/New Year surcharges apply.
- February: Ideal weather, fewer crowds than December. Good for honeymoons.
- March: Holi festival (mid-March) — an unforgettable experience. Temperatures rising to 30-35°C.
April – June: Summer (Hot but Strategic)
Daytime temperatures reach 40-45°C in most cities. However, this is the best time for Ranthambore tiger sightings because animals come to water sources. Early morning safaris (6 AM) are comfortable even in summer. Desert camps are not operational in peak summer.
July – September: Monsoon (Off-Season Deals)
Rajasthan receives relatively low rainfall compared to the rest of India, making it one of the better mon-season destinations. Ranthambore National Park is closed July-September. Udaipur and Mount Abu are beautiful in monsoon with lakes full and green surroundings. Hotel rates drop 20-40% — great value for budget travellers.
City-Specific Best Times
- Jaisalmer: Oct-Mar for desert. Avoid May-Jun (extreme heat, sandstorms).
- Jaipur: Oct-Mar ideal. Apr-May manageable for mornings only.
- Udaipur: Year-round. Monsoon (Jul-Sep) is actually beautiful here.
- Jodhpur: Oct-Mar. Blue City walking tour uncomfortable in summer.
- Ranthambore: Oct-Jun for safaris. Apr-May = best tiger sightings. Park closed Jul-Sep.
- Mount Abu: Year-round hill station. Summer (May-Jun) is peak escape season.
- Pushkar: Nov for Camel Fair. Oct-Mar for Brahma Temple and lake.
